History

The Macquarie University Security Studies & Criminology Society was officially established in 2018 following a merger between the Security Studies and Intelligence Society and the Macquarie University Criminology Society. The first constitution of the Macquarie University Security Studies &  Criminology Society was entered into force on the 3rd of October 2019. It would take one year later before the Constitution for this society would be approved. 

The Society History is continually being worked on as in an effort to improve transparency for the society and to create engagement in the society as a transparent future requires a transparent past. 

The logos of our Founding Societies

For a long part of our history we have been known as MACSEC, it was derived from prior to the merger of our founding societies and was associated with the Macquarie University Security Studies and Intelligence Society. At the beginning of 2026, the Executive Committee had voted to adopt the usage of MQCRIMSEC in lieu to better reflect the society's interdisciplinary nature.
