Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is the highest committee in the Society and is Responsible for the Overall Management of the Society. Members of the Executive Committee hold full liability and are enshrined under the Society's Terms of Reference. The Executive Committee is liable and responsible for ensuring compliance with university policies.
Eligibility:
Enrolled in an award program at Macquarie University
Maintain a satisfactory academic standing
Completion of the Responding to Disclosures Training
A current member of the society
All positions of the Executive Committee are vacated at each AGM held in October. Those elected will serve until the next AGM the following year. Should a position of the Executive Committee be vacated, all members of the society will be notified about an EGM with a minimum of two weeks notice and are able to nominate themselves for the position.
During the EGM, an election will occur in the event that more than one person has nominated themself. Those in attendance will have to vote for the candidate they prefer. In the event an EGM doesn't meet quorum (10% of the society's member) in 15 minutes, the meeting will dissolve and it is at the discretion of the Executive Committee to select a candidate.

Management Committee
The Management Committee is responsible for the operations of the society. Under Terms of References prior to 2025, the Management Committee would be recognised and would consist of the Vice President, Events Coordinator, and Marketing Coordinator. However since 2026, non-executive committees are no longer recognised, thus they are governed by the Macquarie University Security Studies & Criminology Society Committees Statute. The Committees Statute has increased the number of coordinators in the society who will be responsible for overseeing specialised subcommittees which work to achieve the operational goals of the society.

Vacancies:
Marketing and Media Coordinator:
Be responsible for leading the Marketing & Media Committee to organise marketing and media operations at the direction of the executive committee;
Be responsible for the social media of the Society, monitoring, maintaining, and publishing relevant content;
Liaise with the executive committee to create and publish marketing and promotional material for society events;
Develop strategies to maintain a positive and favourable image of the society; and
Provide feedback regarding events and other relevant society operations to the executive committee; and
Provide an adequate and appropriate handover to the next Marketing & Media Coordinator including all relevant materials.
Policy Committee Coordinator:
Be responsible for leading the policy committee to develop and review policies;
To be knowledgeable of relevant bylaws such as student groups policy, and the student code of conduct, and the society’s terms of reference;
Chair meetings of the policy committee;
Internally investigate suspected instances of noncompliance to these terms of reference or the university bylaws;
To produce draft amendments for the terms of reference at the direction of the executive committee while ensuring compliance; and
Provide an adequate and appropriate handover to the next policy committee coordinator including all relevant materials.
Professional Development & Education Coordinator:
Education Committee in developing opportunities for the professional development and further education of members;
Creation and management of resources to better the understanding of members;
Liaising with the events team to coordinate any events they may wish to host;
Ensure the representation of security studies;
To appoint a current studies who is studying security studies respectively as advisors to ensure representation for the development of both disciplines;
To chair meetings of the professional development and education team; and
Provide an adequate and appropriate handover to the next Professional Development & Education Coordinator including all resources and materials relevant to the role.
Academic & Research Coordinator
Be responsible for leading the Academic & Research Committee;
Chair meetings of the Academic & Research Committee;
Create and manage publications for the society;
Maintain an academic and competent staff;
Encourage research projects within the society;
Ensure an appropriate handover for the next academic & research coordinator.
Subcommittees
Academic & Research Committee
The Academic & Research Committee is led by the Academic & Research Coordinator;
In the event of a vacancy of the Academic & Research Coordinator, the Vice President, or a member of the Executive Committee may become responsible;
The Academic & Research Committee is responsible for production and stimulation of an academically-conducive environment;
The Academic & Research Committee is responsible for making sure that the disciplines of criminology and security studies are adequately represented in academia;
The Academic & Research Committee is expected to work with the Professional Development & Education Committee to create academic and research projects;
Cases of plagiarism are to be reported to the Executive Committee;
The Academic & Research Coordinator shall advise on parameters for the usage of AI in academic projects and publications;
The Committee may consider the production of a publication;
Positions:
Criminology Academic Representative: Responsible for advocating and supporting the society’s stimulation and academic contribution to criminology
Security Studies Academic Representative: Responsible for advocating and supporting the society’s stimulation and academic contribution to security studies
Academic & Research Officer: Responsible for assisting in the goals of the committee as directed by the coordinator and the management committees.
Crisis Simulations Committee
Crisis Simulation Committee:
The Crisis Simulation Committee is led by the Crisis & Simulation Coordinator;
In the event of a vacancy of the Crisis Simulation Coordinator, the Vice President, or a member of the Executive Committee may become responsible;
The Crisis Simulation Committee is responsible for the planning, design, and delivery of crisis simulations, scenario-based exercises, and applied security or criminology simulations;
The committee shall develop realistic scenarios that reflect contemporary security, intelligence, criminological, and policy challenges, ensuring academic relevance and member engagement;
The committee shall coordinate rehearsals, briefings, and debriefings for simulations, and ensure participants understand procedures, roles, and expectations;
The committee shall be responsible for risk management within simulations, including ensuring simulations are conducted safely, ethically, and in accordance with university and society policies; and
The committee shall liaise with the events committee, academic staff, external organisations, or guest facilitators where appropriate to enhance the quality and realism of simulations; and
Position:
Crisis Simulation Officer: Responsible in the development and execution of simulations.
Events Committee
The events Committee is led by the Events coordinator;
In the event, of a vacancy of the event coordinator, the vice president, or a member of the executive committee may become responsible
The events team is responsible for assisting in the planning, conceptualisation, and assistance at events;
Attending event rehearsals, and being knowledgeable on features of an event such as most importantly, evacuation plans, and being able to answer questions from guests;
Positions
Events Officer: Events Officers shall assist the society in the event committee’s purpose.
Reservists Events Officer: A position given to members who wish to help the society on a case by case basis to suit their availability
Governance
The Governance Coordinator is in charge of the Governance Committee;
There may at any time be nine (9) members of the Governance Committee;
Two (2) spots of the committee are reserved for any member in the society;
Two (2) spots of the committee are reserved for students enrolled in an undergraduate criminology program at Macquarie University;
Two (2) spots of the committee are reserved for students enrolled in a bachelor of security studies at Macquarie University;
In the absence of the coordinator, the committee may be led by the Executive Committee or the Vice President;
The Governance Committee is responsible for the creation and drafting of policy at their own volition or at the direction of the Vice President or the Governance Coordinator; and
Representing members of the society on issues deemed important
Marketing Committee
the marketing and media committee is led by the Marketing and Media Coordinator;
in the event, of a vacancy of the Marketing & Media coordinator, the vice president, or a member of the executive committee may become responsible;
the marketing and media team is responsible for marketing of the society and events, and engaging in activities to promote and maintain it’s reputation; and
The marketing and media committee is responsible for running the society’s social media; and
Marketing & Media Officer: They are responsible for the management of the society’s social media including making sure that posts go up and that questions of members on social media are answered. And the general support of the committee’s purpose. Additionally, they’re also responsible for the creation of art and other marketing materials as needed.
Professional Development & Education Committee
The professional development & education committee is responsible for the development and maintenance of resources with the intention of further developing the skills and education of members;
The professional development & education committee is led by the Professional Development & Education Coordinator; and
The professional development & education committee may be led by the Vice President or the Executive Committee in the absence of the respective coordinator.
Positions:
Criminology Advisor: Shall be picked based on their knowledge of the discipline and their ability to be creative and shall work directly under the coordinator;
Security Studies Advisor: Shall be picked based on their knowledge of the discipline and their ability to be creative and shall work under the coordinator; and
Professional Development & Education Officer: Shall assist the committee in its purpose as instructed to by the coordinator and the advisors of the committee.
